Next Event - Cancelled

Dear friends

Whissonsett Horticultural Society and Garden Club:
Meeting Thursday 20th November

We are really sorry to let you know that we are having to cancel this meeting. Unfortunately with only two of the committee able to attend, and the likelihood of low numbers at this time of year, we concluded it would not be viable. We have asked Chris if he might be able to come to speak at our April AGM next year instead, but at the moment this hasn't been confirmed.

We are unable to change the information on the website as Kevin is halfway across the world and does not have the necessary information with him to do so. This e-mail is going to all our members, and will also be on the village facebook site, but if you are aware of anyone you think might be planning on coming who isn't a member, please do let them know.

It is a shame, but is also a reflection of the difficulties we are facing and the reality that without a larger committee and membership, we are going to have to reduce what we put on. But we haven't given up! We do have ideas for a way forward without closing down the society and will provide more information before the AGM.

Plant propagation to keep your borders full - Chris Davy

Thursday 20th November 2025

Open to Members and Non Members
Chris Davy entertained us last year with his talk on irises (and more) and we welcome him back to speak about plant propagation to keep your borders full without buying plants.

Welcome

We are a small but friendly and thriving group of amateur gardeners. Throughout the year we have talks on various garden related topics delivered by a range of speakers.

There are summer and autumn shows, where the competition is lively and friendly, alongside visits to gardens and other occasional events.

Meetings

We normally meet on the third Thursday of the month at;
Whissonsett Village Hall, London Street, Whissonsett, NR20 5ST.
W3W: elevated.education.struggle
Meetings begin at 7:30pm unless stated otherwise on the programme of events.

Membership

We welcome new members whatever your level of gardening experience - expert or total beginner! Membership fee is £10 per year, due in April. Just come along and join at any of our meetings or contact the secretary - see Contacts.

Visitors are always most welcome at our meetings (£2.00 per person).

Jill Jarman

It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of Jill Jarman, one of our longest standing members. Jill died suddenly on Saturday 22nd March 2025 at home. Jill played a huge part in the society’s life and in due course we will put together a fuller tribute to her on this page. Jill was a force of nature and will be missed enormously not just for her role in the society, but as a friend.

We will provide further information about funeral arrangements and any of her family’s wishes when we have them.

Autumn Show

Thank you to everyone who entered the Show on 6 September and to everyone who came to see the exhibits and enjoy tea and cake in the afternoon. It was a lovely day and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Well done to all who took part, and particularly to the prize winners.  Maybe you will be inspired for next year?
