News & Reports - Visit to Southgate Barn
We were given a tour of these lovely gardens, learning their fascinating history, by the owners Nick & Jackie Sandford. After the tour, refreshments of tea and homemade cake were enjoyed. Despite the on - off rain all day, it kindly stopped for most of our visit! The gardens are open to small groups under the National Open Garden Scheme and the visit fee is donated to charity.
1¼ acre garden full of interest and a borrowed view. Woodland area with specimen trees, pond, gravel garden, wisteria arch, large terrace with box balls. Yew, hornbeam and beech hedging. Colourful herbaceous borders. Designed and planted from scratch by Tim Lees in 1980, restored from 2019 (in the current owners style) after being rented out for many years.
